Alleged Corruption Scandal Rocks NetEase: Executives and Employees in Hot Water


Reports indicate that the ‌former head of NetEase’s esports division and the ex-general manager of NetEase Games have been taken into custody on charges related to money laundering and bribery. Along with Xiang ⁣Liang and Jin Yuchen, other individuals from the company have also been arrested ⁣for⁤ suspected corrupt activities.

According to Game Developer, a​ Chinese news source‌ Leifeng revealed that the accused former employees are believed to‍ have laundered approximately 800 million ⁤to 1 ⁣billion yuan ($111 million to $139 million). While NetEase has acknowledged that authorities are looking into potential corruption, they have only ​confirmed firing nine employees due⁤ to alleged bribery.

Yicai Global reported that several external parties were involved as well. An internal memo disclosed by the outlet​ stated that NetEase will sever ties‌ with 27 companies linked to the‍ purported⁣ fraudulent behavior.
