An attempt to develop a game using artificial intelligence has failed, with the conclusion that ”technology cannot replace talent.” This revelation comes from the latest financial report of video game developer Keywords Studios. The company’s endeavor to create a 2D game solely through AI proved to be unsuccessful, leading to the involvement of real professionals from seven different game development studios.
Although AI facilitated the identification and utilization of over 400 tools, the most successful outcomes were achieved through collaboration with experienced individuals. This experience solidified the notion that the creative input of real people is indispensable in game development, relegating artificial intelligence to a supplementary role.
As a research project, the game created will not be released to the public, and Keywords Studios has not disclosed further details about its features. Notably, Keywords Studios is the world’s largest outsourcing studio, having contributed to renowned games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Alan Wake 2.
