Actors on strike claim studios could exploit their likeness without fair compensation through rejected ‘AI proposal’


Leaders at the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists announced on Thursday that the group would go on strike after failed negotiations with Hollywood studios. The rejected deal, according to the Alliance of Motion Picture of Television Producers, included a “groundbreaking AI proposal” aimed at safeguarding performers’ digital likenesses. The AMPTP stated that the AI deal would necessitate performers’ consent for the “creation and use of digital replicas or for digital alterations of a performance.” However, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland argued during a press conference that the proposal had the opposite effect.
