In Baldur’s Gate 3, the companion Carlah has the ability to break the fourth wall. Dataminer Cubblot published a video on their YouTube channel in which the tiefling realizes that she is in a game.
In one of the dialogues (the blogger did not specify which one), Carlah attempts to demonstrate the technique of detecting lies through the gaze of a creature, which she learned from the priest Zariel. At some point, her gaze shifts to the camera and she asks the player what will happen to her next. If you answer her questions, the tiefling will deliver the following monologue.
“I see… a massive web. Intersecting lines and chaos beyond them. And then a hand that decides: yes, no. But it barely knows itself. Furthermore, it sees its place in this web. I am trapped here forever. In these tangled lines, in these hundreds of hours, or less, or more… You find it amusing, don’t you?” – Carlah.
The voice actress who voiced the character, Shala Nyx, confirmed that the developers did not remove Carlah’s words about the player. “Congratulations on finding [the Easter egg], maybe I’ll talk about it when someone triggers this dialogue naturally, instead of pulling out the file and getting confused in the context,” the actress added.
