The strike took place at around 8 p.m. following air-raid warnings throughout the country due to a Ukrainian Air Force alert about a Russian MiG-31K jet taking off from a Russian air base. These jets are capable of carrying hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, which are considered highly advanced conventional weapons in Russia’s arsenal. The Ukrainian air force warned residents about the missile threat and urged them to take the alarms seriously. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared images of the attack on Zaporizhzhia and stated that a rescue operation was underway, promising that Russia would face consequences for its actions. Earlier on the same day, a senior adviser to President Zelensky denied Russian accusations that Kyiv attempted a drone attack on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear complex. In addition to the attack in Zaporizhzhia, Russian shelling in the city of Nikopol resulted in the death of an 18-year-old, while a 16-year-old girl in Kherson died more than a week after being injured in shelling attacks, according to state administrators.
