Former US President Jimmy Carter, the oldest living president of the United States, has passed away at the remarkable age of 100.
Carter, who served as president from 1977 to 1981, peacefully departed on a Sunday at his residence in Plains, Georgia, as confirmed by The Carter Center.
The news of his passing was shared by the organization he established after leaving office. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was the first to report this sad event.
Although no specific cause of death was disclosed immediately, Carter had been under hospice care for nearly two years following treatment for skin cancer. He marked his centennial birthday in October with loved ones at home.
In November 2023, Rosalynn Carter, Jimmy’s devoted wife of 76 years, also passed away.

The legacy left behind by the former peanut farmer from Georgia is profound despite his single term in office. Notably winning the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2002 for combating Guinea worm disease and monitoring global elections through The Carter Center are among his notable achievements post-presidency.

His commitment to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity until late into life solidified a reputation for community service and humility that garnered praise from all sides of politics.
‘An extraordinary leader’
A state funeral will be held on January 9th for President Biden’s predecessor. Americans are urged to “pay homage” at their places of worship on a National Day of Mourning set for that day.
In heartfelt tributes to him, President Biden hailed Carter as “an extraordinary leader” who impacted lives globally through compassion and moral integrity.
