According to Krebs on Security (via The Verge), the person responsible for hacking the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2021 has been arrested by US law enforcement authorities this week. Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, the administrator of BreachForums, was arrested on Wednesday by FBI agents. Fitzpatrick, also known as “Pompompurin,” is linked to some of the most high-profile hacks in recent memory, including multiple incidents involving the FBI.
In 2021, Pompompurin claimed responsibility for compromising the agency’s email servers and sending thousands of fake cybersecurity warnings. Pompompurin is also connected to the 2022 breach of the FBI’s InfraGard network, which resulted in the sale of contact information for more than 80,000 members. Additionally, Pompompurin is linked to the 2021 Robinhood hack, which compromised the data of 7 million users, and the 2022 Twitter data leak.
