UPS workers have ratified a significant five-year labor deal that includes substantial wage increases and other improvements to work rules and schedules, as announced by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on Tuesday.
The contract was approved with 86.3% of votes, marking the highest contract vote in the history of Teamsters at UPS, according to the union.
“Teamsters have established a new standard and raised the bar for pay, benefits, and working conditions in the package delivery industry. This serves as a model for how workers should be compensated and protected nationwide, and nonunion companies like Amazon should take note,” stated Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien.
Last month, UPS and the Teamsters union, which represents approximately 340,000 workers at the delivery giant, reached a preliminary agreement, narrowly avoiding a strike that could have had widespread effects on the U.S. economy as the previous contract expiration date of July 31 approached.
