Lately, the gaming industry in Russia has been impressing us with projects that can compete with large-budget Western AAA games. Many of these games are still in development, but they already show promise with their epic scale and potential. One such game is Distortion, a role-playing action game being developed by Moscow-based studio Game Art Pioneers using Unreal Engine 5 technology with a budget of around $100 million. The developers recently shared more details about the project in an interview with IGM.
Game Art Pioneers drew inspiration from the best RPGs like “The Witcher” and “Skyrim” to create a unique, high-quality Russian epic. Distortion promises a vast world with dynamic content and locations ranging from 1×1 km to 8×8 km. Players will have the opportunity to embark on adventures with 8 characters, each with a unique story and upgradeable abilities. The game will be set in a post-cyberpunk world on the planet Chloe-Achaea in the distant future, offering a non-traditional plot development and a high degree of variability in side activities.
Distortion will have high replayability, a gradually revealed world map, and a skill tree similar to Dragon Age. Players can expect to fight monsters and humans, with the game featuring gore, intimate scenes, and coarse language. The release of Distortion in early access on PC is planned for 2025-2026, with regular story expansions to follow.
