Conflict
Tragedy struck as one individual lost their life and 24 others sustained injuries due to Russian drone and bomb assaults on Kharkiv, a city in northeastern Ukraine, and its vicinity. Reports of power outages emerged as well.
Ukraine’s Air Force disclosed that Russia initiated an attack with 24 Shahed drones, with 23 of them being successfully intercepted.
The Russian Ministry of Defence declared the seizure of Ocheretyne, a village in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. Prior to the invasion, the village was home to approximately 3,000 residents. Ukrainian authorities remained silent on the matter, with no mention of Ocheretyne in the Armed Forces General Staff’s evening briefing.
Footage captured by drones, as obtained by The Associated Press, depicted the village ravaged by the conflict, devoid of any signs of life. Every structure in Ocheretyne bore the scars of battle.
Diplomacy and Governance
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s arrival in France for a state visit coincided with French President Emmanuel Macron’s anticipated discussions with him regarding the Ukrainian war.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video message commemorating Orthodox Easter, urged unity among Ukrainians in prayer for one another and the soldiers at the front lines. He expressed faith in a divine ally with the Ukrainian flag, ensuring victory of life over death.
