The Investigative Committee of St. Petersburg has concluded its investigation into the tragic murder of singer Igor Talkov back in 1991, as announced by department representative Svetlana Petrenko.
The final charges have been filed against Valery Shlyafman, the concert director of the late singer, for murder and attempted murder in a particularly dangerous manner, as stipulated in part 2 of article 102 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR.
Details from the investigation reveal a backstage altercation at the Jubilee Sports Palace in October 1991, where Shlyafman allegedly attempted to shoot Igor Malakhov, a representative of the singer Aziza. In a tragic turn of events, Shlyafman missed his target and fatally wounded Igor Talkov instead.
Over 150 witnesses, including artists, venue staff, and law enforcement officials, were interviewed during the extensive investigation. Genetic testing, forensic examinations from the early 90s, and crucial evidence from Shlyafman’s bloodstained shirt were pivotal in linking the suspect to the crime.
Initially charged with manslaughter in 1992, Shlyafman fled to Israel, leading to a suspension of the case. Despite the passing of Igor Talkov’s mother in 2007, renewed efforts in 2021, driven by the singer’s widow Tatiana, led to the reopening of the case and a significant reclassification of the charges.
The Investigative Committee upgraded the charge to intentional murder under aggravating circumstances, marking a crucial step in the pursuit of justice for Igor Talkov and his loved ones.
