Every major PC manufacturer is now incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into their machines, but why?
Consumer-oriented generative AI (genAI) services like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini are already available through cloud-based platforms.
Forrester Research predicts that the upcoming year will be known as “the year of the AI PC.”
An AI PC, as defined by Forrester, includes an embedded AI processor and algorithms tailored to enhance AI workloads on the CPU, GPU, and NPU. NPUs enable PCs to execute AI tasks at high speeds by delegating specific functions.
Forrester’s report highlights how AI processing has traditionally been reliant on cloud services like Microsoft Teams. However, the emergence of AI PCs is shifting this paradigm by bringing processing power to local devices running any OS.
Leading tech companies such as AMD, Dell, HP, Intel, Apple, Nvidia, and Lenovo are all gearing up to introduce groundbreaking innovations in the realm of AI PCs within the next year. This development coincides with a critical period for Windows users as Windows 10 will reach its end of life support next October – prompting users to consider upgrading to Windows 11 along with new hardware purchases.
