Sanjeev Kumar, a 27-year-old resident of Patna, Bihar, finds himself unemployed, facing the added pressure of his father’s upcoming retirement from his job as a car salesman.
Having graduated in business studies from the capital of Bihar, Kumar had high hopes when he voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP in 2019, expecting to secure one of the many new jobs promised by the ruling party.
Despite his efforts to land a job in the Indian Railways’ Group D positions, Kumar faced disappointment as he did not pass the required exams, highlighting the scarcity of advertised job opportunities compared to the actual number available.
Feeling the weight of responsibility with his father’s impending retirement, Kumar remains steadfast in his support for Modi in the ongoing national election, emphasizing the overall progress of the country despite the challenges in job availability.

His unwavering support for Modi reflects a larger trend where voters prioritize other aspects over their economic struggles, contributing to the prime minister’s enduring popularity.
Recent research by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) and Lokniti revealed that despite concerns about inflation and job scarcity, many young Indians like Kumar continue to stand by Modi.
