A group of twelve Security Council envoys, organized by the United Arab Emirates, visited Rafah just days after Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that thousands of people in the besieged Palestinian enclave were “simply starving.”
After arriving in the town of Al-Arish, Egypt, they received a briefing from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on the conditions in Gaza before heading towards Rafah, which is located 48km (30 miles) away.
