In a surprising turn of events, the court in Erzurum, Turkey, has acquitted Syrian student Mohammad Nizar Arnabeh of the murder charges involving Russian femactivist Anastasia Yemelyanova. The news was reported by “Mediazona,” citing a close friend of the deceased, Julia Safronova.
Yemelyanova, aged 32, tragically lost her life in September 2023 in Erzurum, where she had recently relocated with her fiancé, 29-year-old Mohammad Arnabeh. Her lifeless body was discovered in their apartment, covered in blood. Arnabeh was initially accused of intentionally causing her death by assaulting her and inflicting a fatal wound with a piece of glass.
Throughout the investigation, Arnabeh’s account of the events shifted multiple times: from claiming it was an accidental push during an argument to admitting to using the glass as a weapon, only to later deny any involvement in the incident altogether.
Prior to her untimely demise, Yemelyanova had left Russia for Turkey in 2022, where she crossed paths with Arnabeh. She was actively engaged in feminist and anti-war movements, supporting initiatives like “Eve’s Ribs” and “Open Space,” and co-hosting the popular YouTube channel “Feminists Explain.”
