Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is set to be the game’s first and final expansion, but it promises to end V’s journey with a bang. The DLC was announced in September 2022, and now that developer CD Projekt Red has revealed more information about Phantom Liberty, players have something to look forward to until its release, which is not too far away.
Despite the massive resurgence in popularity after the hit Netflix anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, CDPR has confirmed that Phantom Liberty will be Cyberpunk 2077’s only expansion. However, the developer has more content up its sleeve, including a new Witcher game and even a Witcher 1 remake in the works. Eventually, the mysterious Project Orion will return to the beloved Cyberpunk universe as a sequel. Therefore, even though it’s Cyberpunk 2077’s last major update, Phantom Liberty can set up Cyberpunk 2, making it all the more exciting.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty will be released on September 26, 2023. The release date was finally revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, which was streamed live on June 11 via thegameawards YouTube channel. The expansion will have its fair share of competition, but on the bright side, players won’t have to wait much longer to hop in.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is available for pre-order now on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms, and it will cost $29.99 USD. Although it’s a somewhat steep price, it’s a promising indicator of its size. According to the developer, Phantom Liberty is CDPR’s biggest expansion to date, at least in terms of budget. Assuming that the contents of the DLC will match its production budget and its price, it’s quite likely that it could outdo even The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Blood and Wine DLC.
The official trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty premiered live during the Xbox Games Showcase and can now be viewed on Cyberpunk 2077’s YouTube channel. The expansion looks like it will take place at some point during Act 2, as V’s main focus still seems to be on finding a cure for the Soulkiller chip in their brain. Their journey will be one of stealth, espionage, and power politics.
