An Israeli military strike has tragically claimed the lives of six international aid workers and a Palestinian driver.
World Central Kitchen (WCK), a US-based aid organization, confirmed that its team members were deliberately targeted and killed by the Israeli military. The victims hailed from Palestine, Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, and one was a dual US-Canadian citizen.
WCK stated that the attack occurred while its staff were distributing food from its most recent shipment to Gaza, where Israel’s offensive has pushed hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to the brink of starvation.
Distressing footage showed the bodies of the victims at a hospital in the central town of Deir el-Balah. Many of them were wearing protective gear adorned with the charity’s logo.
Following the incident, WCK announced the immediate suspension of its operations in the region. The strike dealt a severe blow to efforts to provide aid by sea, a route that has been developed due to Israeli restrictions on access to Gaza, where experts warn that famine is looming.
