Playing Dungeons & Dragons can be a fun and imaginative experience, but taking the game outside on a camping trip or hike can add an extra layer of immersion to the adventure. Particularly for some of the spookier-themed games, being next to a campfire out in nature can awaken more of the senses and create a richer world and story. Add in a fun group of players, some great snacks, and maybe even quiet thematic music, and it can be a memorable game that will be talked of for years to come.
For an outdoor game, it’s best to limit it to a DnD one-shot adventure rather than a long campaign. Some things to keep in mind are to make sure there is a light source present and consider dice trays or some other way to easily roll dice. Also, the use of maps and miniatures can be much more difficult in this type of setting, so DMs need to consider the unique requirements of the environment and always be prepared for inclement weather.
Reach for the Stars is one of the heists in Keys from the Golden Vault, an official DnD anthology which can be purchased from D&D Beyond. Designed for characters at third level, the heist can be run as a one-shot or combined with other heists in the book to make a long-running campaign. This is a fun heist that encourages a lot of interaction and roleplay between players and can be done outside with relatively few items other than the book. As the adventure utilizes a camp with a backpack for one of its opening areas, this makes it a fun way to start an outdoor game.

Little House On The Scary is a fun mimic-filled adventure created by B.J. Keeton and found on DMs Guild. The adventure revolves around an abandoned inn which can be used as part of the Ravenloft adventures or simply one that the party will stumble across in an environment much like where they are in the real world. For anyone who loves mimics, this spooky adventure would be a fun one-shot.
