Israel continued its attacks on Hamas’s infrastructure in Gaza, targeting command centres, weapon stockpiles, and tunnels. The Israeli army conducted an operation in northern Gaza in preparation for a ground invasion. Despite the ongoing conflict, some humanitarian aid was allowed into the area. The UN reported that a third of Gaza’s hospitals were closed. In the West Bank, clashes between Palestinians, Israeli settlers, and troops escalated, leading to the detention of numerous Hamas members.
Israel claimed that Hamas is holding 220 hostages, including dual-nationals and foreign citizens. Four women, two of whom were American, were released by Hamas. In response to claims that the October 7th Hamas terror attack was exaggerated, Israel decided to release raw footage of the incident. A government spokesperson likened the denial of such claims to “Holocaust denial-like phenomenon unfolding in real time.”
Israel faced more rocket attacks, including one that reached Eilat on the Red Sea. The American warship intercepted missiles fired from Yemen, and rockets were also launched from Syria. Amid concerns of escalating conflict, the United States is increasing its troops and weaponry in the region due to fears of Iran’s proxies, including Hamas, Hizbullah, and Islamic Jihad.
