Apple is gradually phasing out the Lightning cable in favor of USB-C charging ports for its devices and accessories. Alongside the announcement of the iPhone 15 devices, which feature USB-C ports, Apple also revealed a change in the physical charging jack for the second-generation AirPods Pro. Previously, to obtain a USB-C case for the earbuds, you would have needed to purchase a new set of AirPods Pro.
However, this is no longer the case as Apple now sells the USB-C AirPods Pro case separately. The standalone case is priced at $99, significantly cheaper than the previous cost of $249.
If you prefer to avoid using Lightning cables altogether and are not a fan of wireless or MagSafe charging, it may be worth considering purchasing the case. Additionally, if you have lost your previous case and need a replacement, it would be a good opportunity to switch to the USB-C version. It is important to note that Apple states the case is only compatible with the second-generation AirPods Pro.
