The US Becomes the Primary Target as Global Ransomware Attacks Reach Record Levels


According to a report issued⁤ by Malwarebytes, global ransomware attacks‍ are increasing. The ​study reveals a significant surge from July 2022 to June 2023, with the United ‍States being the most targeted country. The organization highlights that out of the 1,900 reported ransomware attacks collected, over 43 ​percent originate in the U.S,​ which is a​ 75 percent increase compared⁤ to last year’s findings.

Germany, France, and the ⁢UK also experienced a rise in deployed ransomware,‌ although at⁢ a lower rate than ​the ​United States. The report provides details on⁣ 48 separate ransomware groups that targeted American companies, governmental organizations, ⁢and regular​ consumers during ‌the mentioned time ‍period. Healthcare and educational institutions were particularly⁢ affected.‍ For example, dental insurer Managed Care of North ⁢America (MCNA) suffered a breach ⁣in March, and the New York City Department⁤ of Education was targeted in June.
