CD Projekt Red’s open-ended action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 offers multiple endings influenced by main story dialogue choices, side quests, and character romances. These endings range from devastating to bittersweet. Ultimately, the fate of the protagonist V is determined by the player. However, in all but one of the endings, if V survives Cyberpunk, they only have six months to live due to the Relic. Despite the challenges, V can achieve a happy ending, or at least the closest thing to it in the dark Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

At the beginning of the game, Dexter DeShawn presents the player with a choice between “living in peace” or going down in a “blaze of glory.” These are the only options for achieving a happy ending. The player must decide whether V desires a quiet life, fading into obscurity, or wants to become a legendary figure. The happiest endings are either “The Star,” where V enjoys a peaceful existence knowing their impending death, or the secret ending “The Sun,” where V becomes the living legend they always aspired to be. There is also a third ending, “The Tower,” from the Phantom Liberty DLC, where V can be cured of the Relic at a high cost.

The easiest way to determine V’s happiest ending is by eliminating most of the other endings. The suicide ending, known as the “Path of Least Resistance,” is particularly morose and represents the most obvious “bad ending” in a video game. As a general rule, any ending that resembles something from Silent Hill should be avoided. Similarly, “The Devil” ending is a sinister conclusion to the Cyberpunk 2077 story, where V aligns with the villainous megacorporation Arasaka to remove their biochip. In this ending, V either gets trapped in cyberspace with no guarantee of return or is abandoned on Earth by their friends. The “Temperance” ending, which sees V dying in Cyberpunk, also does not qualify as a happy ending.
