Terminator: Survivors was unveiled at the Nacon Connect conference on February 29, 2024. The game, previously known as “Terminator Survival Project,” was first announced by Nacon in 2022 with a brief cinematic trailer. The new trailer and “Creating The World” feature revealed that Terminator: Survivors is a first-person survival shooter game with solo and co-op multiplayer modes. Players will face human and mechanical threats across an open world map. The game’s storyline is set a few years after Judgment Day and before John Connor founded the Resistance, introducing both familiar and new characters in an unexplored era of Terminator lore.
The game’s protagonists are initially unaware of the existence of the Terminators and only learn about them through teaming up with other survivors on their journey. Terminator: Survivors promises to expand on the original story with a completely original storyline. The game will feature various gunfights across the post-apocalyptic world and the survivors’ base. While there have been various Terminator games in different genres over the years, the majority of them have been in the first-person shooter genre.
Atari’s 2003 title Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines tie-in, and Bethesda’s 1993 and 1995 games, The Terminator: Rampage and The Terminator: Future Shock, were all fairly linear, as was the norm for first-person shooters of their time. Terminator: Resistance, on the other hand, offered more exploration across larger areas and the ability to take different approaches to situations with some RPG elements, breaking away from the traditional level-based gameplay.
