According to a new support document discovered by Windows Central, Microsoft will no longer support the standalone Cortana app for Windows by the end of 2023. This move comes after the introduction of Windows Copilot, which marked the end of Cortana on Microsoft’s desktop OS. Cortana was initially launched as a voice assistant for Windows mobile devices in 2014, but it never achieved the same level of recognition and popularity as Apple’s Siri or Amazon’s Alexa. Over the years, Microsoft scaled back its plans for the voice assistant, discontinuing its Android and iOS apps in 2021 and removing it from partner manufacturers’ devices, such as smart speakers. For Windows, Microsoft changed Cortana’s status from a baked-in digital assistant to its own app for computers, which is the app that will be discontinued by the end of the year.
