What were the highlights of PlayStation’s State of Play presentation?
Recently, Sony brought us a State of Play with exciting news about upcoming titles for the PlayStation 4 console. With plenty of surprise announcements and updates, let’s take a look at the biggest news.
The Last of Us: Part II
Developed by Naughty Dog and set five years after the original The Last of Us, ‘The Last of Us: Part II’ is the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2013 hit survival horror game. The cinematic trailer starts with a new environment and an older Ellie playing guitar in the middle of the woods, and then quickly shifts to intense violence and chaos.
The Last of Us: Part II is sure to evoke a wide range of emotions, and to live up to the standard set by the original.
Marvel’s Iron Man VR
Marvel’s Iron Man VR is an exciting virtual reality game in which players can take on the role of Tony Stark. Golden Sacues Games’s game puts you inside Tony Stark’s iconic suit, where you will be able to fly, fire repulsor blasts, and take on a variety of villains in virtual reality.
With beautiful visuals, vibrant action, and plenty of opportunities to upgrade your suit, Marvel’s Iron Man VR looks set to be an exciting and immersive experience.

State of Play also brought us news about several other PlayStation exclusives, such as:
- Dreams – a powerful game-building tool from Media Molecule
- Predator: Hunting Grounds – an online-focused asymmetrical shooter where four players take on the jungle hunter
- No Straight Roads – a funky vinyl-themed action-adventure from Metronomik
State of Play had plenty of other news too, such as Crimson Desert, ReadySet Heroes, and Resident Evil 3. It’s clear that the PlayStation 4 is set to have an exciting year in 2020.
Today, Sony has unveiled the biggest news from their newest State of Play broadcast.
In the two-hour show, PlayStation showed off plenty of new titles, updates, and other promos. The show opened with a preview of ‘Returnal’ from Housemarque and then announced the release date for ‘Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’ for June 11, 2021.
The show continued with some updates for Horizon Forbidden West and openly discussed the return of PlayStation 2 classics as part of their anniversary celebration. Sony Special Guest Creative Director Hideaki Nishiyama and President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida took to the stage and showed off footage of the mystery adventure game ‘Gran Turismo 7’.
More announcements included a ‘God of War’: Ragnarok tease, a first look at ‘Kena: Bridge of Spirits’, a trailer for the new ‘Ghost of Tsushima: Legends’ multiplayer mode, a new ‘Destruction Allstars’ update, a revamp of ‘Killing Floor 2’ and a PC update for ‘Sackboy A Big Adventure’. The team at Sony also showed off the Back4Blood beta for the PlayStation 5.
Now that the biggest State of Play news has been revealed, Sony is sure to have a spectacular 2021, with plenty of exciting content for fans to enjoy on the new hardware. Be sure to check the announcements both online and on your PlayStation consoles throughout the year.
