Boeing has delayed the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft’s Crew Flight Test date again due to technical issues. The spacecraft was supposed to fly its first crewed mission to the International Space Station (ISS) on July 21st, but the company has detected two new problems that need to be addressed. Together with NASA, Boeing has announced that it will delay the mission to address the risks presented by these issues.
The first issue is related to the spacecraft’s parachute system. The Starliner capsule was designed to float back down to Earth with the help of three parachutes. However, Boeing discovered that parts of the lines connecting the system to the capsule cannot tolerate the spacecraft’s load in case only two of the three parachutes are deployed correctly. Since the capsule will be carrying human passengers back to Earth, the company has to ensure their safety by looking at every aspect of the spacecraft.
