The press recently unveiled a sneak peek of Star Wars Outlaws, sparking mixed reactions. While some journalists praised the game, others criticized it for being too reminiscent of the Uncharted series. Creative director Julian Gerighty addressed some of the feedback and shed light on the game’s features, such as the cut swimming mechanic.
Exploring Negative Reviews
In an interview with VGC, Gerighty acknowledged that he had not yet seen the preview himself and learned about the negative comments from others. Key points from the discussion included:
- The comparison to Naughty Dog’s work was flattering, but Gerighty clarified that Uncharted was not the team’s primary inspiration.
“It’s an honor to be compared to such a fantastic game. While I appreciate the comparison, Uncharted was not our main influence.”
- Gerighty emphasized that the preview only scratched the surface of the gameplay, serving as a teaser for what’s to come.
“The demo showcased just a fraction of the game. We have more exciting elements to reveal in the full game.”
Game Duration Insights
Concerns were raised by some journalists about the length of Star Wars Outlaws. Gerighty assured that the game could be completed in 30 hours, with completionists spending 50-60 hours exploring all locations.
“It’s not a sprawling epic like Assassin’s Creed with 200-hour playthroughs. We focused on quality and detail.”
Insights on Cut Content
Gerighty highlighted the importance of aligning the team’s vision for Star Wars Outlaws. While 95% of the initial version was retained, some features were added or revised, while others were scrapped. For instance, swimming was dropped due to project scale, but arcade machines and mini-games were introduced unexpectedly.
Star Wars Outlaws launches on August 30 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, with early access available on August 27 for gold and ultimate edition holders. Russian subtitles will be included.
