The Saints Row reboot is receiving new DLC content over the next few months and into the summer, including a crossover with Dead Island 2. After a disappointing launch last year, the game hasn’t received much post-launch support, leaving fans disappointed.
Saints Row launched in August of 2022 to poor reception. The reboot of the GTA-styled open world action series was a departure from what fans have come to expect from the franchise, with poorly-received characters and dialogue. The world of Santo Ileso, while visually appealing with neon signage and desert vibes, left a lot to be desired. Saints Row put the future of the franchise in jeopardy as Volition and Deep Silver were reeling from underwhelming sales and harsh reviews.
It’s surprising to see Volition double down on Saints Row over six months later with a new DLC roadmap. The roadmap, revealed via Twitter, features a multi-windowed graphic highlighting each month through to August, though skipping June. With Dead Island 2 right around the corner, it’s no surprise it’s doing a crossover event with its two most well known franchises to promote the release of its zombie thrasher. The Dead Island 2 cosmetic pack will be available free for players in April.
Alongside free updates that’ll add new districts to Santo Ileso, the roadmap also reveals three new expansion passes. The first, called The Heist and the Hazardous, will add new story missions to the game. Since some feel the narrative ended on a high note, hopefully these new story missions will expand upon that a bit. July will see the second expansion pass added to the game; a new solo mode called Doc Ketchum’s Murder Circus. Lastly, the third and final untitled expansion will release in August which will also provide even more new story missions.
