Online spending on Thanksgiving Day increased by 5.5% compared to last year, as reported by Adobe Analytics. This reflects the trend of holiday shoppers purchasing more gifts online and taking advantage of discounts.
E-commerce sales reached $5.6 billion on Thanksgiving Day, nearly double the $2.87 billion spent by consumers in 2017, according to Adobe’s analysis.
For Black Friday, online spending is projected to rise even further, with an expected total of $9.6 billion, a 5.7% increase compared to the previous year.
However, it is still uncertain whether this surge will be sufficient to drive a strong overall holiday season.
According to the National Retail Federation’s forecast, holiday shoppers are anticipated to spend 3% to 4% more in November and December compared to the previous year. This represents a significant slowdown from the growth in holiday sales observed during the Covid-19 pandemic and a return to more typical pre-pandemic growth levels.
