Russia has implemented a temporary ban on exporting cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose until August 31, 2024, as announced on the government’s Telegram channel. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure stability in the domestic food market, as stated in the message.
It is important to note that the ban will not impact sugar supplies to Armenia (28 thousand tons), Belarus (5 thousand tons), Kazakhstan (120 thousand tons), and Kyrgyzstan (28.5 thousand tons).
Reports from Interfax revealed that discussions about prohibiting sugar exports from Russia began at the end of February within the Ministry of Agriculture. The rationale behind this decision was concerns regarding the increase in sugar exports overseas.
