Stellantis is implementing a reduction in its workforce, affecting approximately 400 salaried employees in the U.S. within its engineering, technology, and software divisions. This move is aimed at cost-cutting measures due to challenging market conditions faced by the automaker.
According to Stellantis, the layoffs will impact around 2% of employees in those units following thorough organizational evaluations. The company had 11,800 U.S. salaried employees as of the end of last year. The workforce reduction will be effective from March 31.
Stellantis stated, “As the auto industry continues to face unprecedented uncertainties and heightened competitive pressures around the world, Stellantis continues to make the appropriate structural decisions across the enterprise to improve efficiency and optimize our cost structure,” in an emailed statement.
A company spokeswoman declined to disclose the exact number of employees affected by the layoffs.
