Microsoft released a total of 90 updates this week as part of its August Patch Tuesday. These updates include fixes for five Windows zero-day vulnerabilities (CVE-2024-38178, CVE-2024-38193, CVE-2024-38213, CVE-2024-38106, CVE-2024-38107) and one zero-day affecting Office (CVE-2024-38189).
This month, it is highly recommended to “Patch Now” for both Windows and Microsoft Office due to these critical security updates. Microsoft has provided useful mitigations and recommendations to address these issues, particularly focusing on networking features in Windows.
While minor updates for Microsoft development platforms can be incorporated into your regular patch release schedule, there are no patches released for Microsoft SQL Server or Exchange Server this time. Additionally, Adobe Reader updates are back, likely included in your Windows desktop Patch Now cycle.

Known issues
Microsoft has identified a couple of known issues following the latest update cycle:
- Windows Servers may experience intermittent Remote Desktop Connectivity issues after installing the update released on or after July 9, 2024. This problem is related to the use of the legacy protocol (Remote Procedure Call over HTTP) in Remote Desktop Gateway, and Microsoft is actively working on a solution.
- Arm device users are facing difficulties downloading and playing Roblox from the Microsoft Store on Windows. This highlights the importance of addressing compatibility issues on ARM platforms. Perhaps it’s also a good time to update your account profile photo—oh, wait!
