On the morning of June 29 in Belgrade, a shocking incident unfolded as a man armed with a crossbow targeted a police officer stationed at the Israeli embassy, injuring him in the neck. The officer, in an act of self-defense, managed to shoot the attacker. This alarming event has been labeled as a terrorist attack by Serbian authorities.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dacic, the assailant is suspected to have ties to a radical Islamist group.
President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia has expressed concern over the situation, revealing that law enforcement is actively searching for an accomplice linked to the attacker. Despite being on the radar of authorities, there was not enough evidence to warrant their arrest.
Fortunately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel confirmed that none of the embassy staff in Belgrade were harmed during the assault.
