Antarctica’s sea ice levels have reached unprecedented lows for three consecutive years, posing serious threats to life on Earth.
A Spanish planetary geologist expressed deep concern, stating, ”We (scientists) are very worried… because we don’t see how we can solve it ourselves.”
Despite the evidence, he lamented that society often dismisses their warnings as alarmist, making it challenging to raise awareness about the issue.
The US National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC) revealed that the minimum Antarctic sea ice extent has been below two million square kilometers for three consecutive Februarys, marking the peak of the southern summer thaw season.
All three years have seen the lowest minimum sea ice cover since records began 46 years ago.
