This change follows X’s recent decision to automatically assign blue checks to accounts of “influential” users with over 2,500 followers who have a premium subscription. While Elon Musk viewed this as a benefit, some users, including those who were previously verified, were not pleased with the sudden appearance of the blue badge on their profiles, fearing it may give the impression that they paid for the subscription.
