Tidal is revamping its subscription plans to stay competitive in the music streaming market. The platform is consolidating its HiFi Plus and HiFi tiers into a single plan, simply named Tidal. This new option will provide the same features that Plus users previously paid $20 per month for, but at a reduced price of $11, aligning with the pricing of Spotify and Apple Music’s individual plans. Tidal’s decision to streamline its offerings comes after the company laid off 10 percent of its workforce in December, indicating a need to reevaluate its pricing strategy.
The updated solo tier will encompass Dolby Atmos, HiRes FLAC, and lossless audio for a vast library of over 100 million songs. While Apple Music also offers lossless audio, Tidal’s inclusion of Dolby Atmos sets it apart. Notably, Spotify has yet to introduce lossless audio, positioning Tidal as a frontrunner in this aspect. However, current HiFi Plus subscribers will need to pay an additional $10 for Tidal’s DJ Extension, as the platform transitions its DJ integration feature. Despite this, users who have utilized DJ integration in the last 90 days will automatically receive the extension.
