The Food and Drug Administration has granted approval for a sleep apnea detection feature on Galaxy Watch devices in the US, marking the first of its kind in the country. Samsung has announced its plans to integrate this feature into compatible Galaxy Watch wearables in the third quarter of this year, making it accessible through the Samsung Health Monitor app.
This innovative tool will enable individuals aged 22 and above, who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea, to monitor and identify potential signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using their smartwatch and phone. To utilize the feature, users will need to monitor their sleep for more than four hours on two separate nights over a ten-day period.
OSA is a prevalent chronic condition that affects approximately 25 percent of men and one-tenth of women in the US, according to the National Sleep Foundation. With this new feature, Samsung aims to provide users with a convenient and accessible method for monitoring their sleep health.
