Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Receives FDA Approval for Innovative Sleep Apnea Functionality

The Food and Drug Administration⁣ has granted approval for a sleep ⁤apnea detection⁤ feature on ⁣Galaxy ‍Watch devices in the US, marking ⁢the first of its kind in the country. Samsung has ‍announced its plans to integrate this feature into compatible Galaxy Watch wearables ​in the third quarter of this year, making it accessible through the Samsung Health⁤ Monitor app.

This innovative tool will enable individuals aged 22 and above, who have not been diagnosed with sleep⁢ apnea, to monitor and identify⁢ potential signs of moderate to‍ severe obstructive sleep apnea ​(OSA) using their smartwatch and phone. To utilize the⁣ feature, users ⁢will need to monitor​ their sleep for more than four hours on two separate nights over a ten-day period.

OSA is​ a prevalent⁤ chronic‍ condition that ​affects approximately 25 percent of men and ⁢one-tenth of women in the US, ‍according to the National Sleep Foundation. With this new feature,⁤ Samsung⁤ aims to provide users with ⁣a convenient ⁢and‍ accessible method for monitoring ⁢their sleep health.
