Russian authorities have implemented a ban on the use of Apple devices by government employees for official state purposes, as reported by the Financial Times. Starting from Monday, the country’s trade ministry will prohibit the use of iPhones for any work-related activities. Other agencies, such as Russia’s telecommunications and mass media ministry, already have similar mandates in place or plan to enforce them soon. The ban applies to all Apple products. However, officials may still use these devices for personal use, as long as they do not access work-related correspondence on them.
Apple has not yet responded to Engadget’s request for comment. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February last year, the company blocked access to Apple Pay and later ceased all product sales in Russia. Apple explicitly stated that this decision was a response to the invasion, expressing solidarity with all those affected by it.
This ban comes in the wake of concerns over US spying…
