A groundbreaking initiative called Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE) teams has been introduced by the government to enhance schools across England. Instead of directly intervening, these teams, consisting of civil servants and seasoned advisors, will serve as connectors between struggling schools and successful local institutions.
These teams will implement a new support and intervention system using a color-coded rating system based on Ofsted inspections results to identify schools in need of assistance. However, this framework is not expected to be fully operational until September 2025.
The establishment of RISE teams aligns with England’s approach to self-improvement
While these teams have the potential to streamline school improvement efforts, they may also add complexity to an already intricate system. Despite existing mechanisms like multi-academy trusts (MATs), which aim to drive improvement through collaboration among state-funded academies under unified leadership.
