Retailers employ promotions and occasions to boost sales


Target hosted a free “Winter Wonderland” event in New York City to showcase the hottest toys of the holiday season. This event exemplifies⁣ the extra effort that retailers⁢ are putting ‌in to motivate shoppers.

NEW YORK CITY —⁢ On a​ recent weekend in downtown Manhattan, a long line of families ‍with strollers and⁢ small children gathered to enter Target’s ⁢”Wonderland”

Santa’s helpers distributed complimentary cookies. Mario and Luigi from Nintendo’s “Super ⁢Mario” video game posed for pictures. A‍ toy train‍ weaved ‌through a miniature village⁣ created from the retailer’s gingerbread kits. And children gazed ‍in awe at some of ⁤the season’s most popular toys, including a large Barbie Dreamhouse.

Getting people to attend was one thing. Transforming the event into a ‍sale is an entirely ⁣different challenge.
