A Finnish video game developer has acquired the rights to the popular action game Control from 2019, along with its upcoming sequel and multiplayer cooperative spin-off Condor.
505 Games will continue to be the publisher of the original Control until December 31, 2024. The agreement is valued at 17 million euros, equivalent to the investment made by 505 Games in the development of Control 2 and Condor. Remedy has indicated that the actual payment may be lower due to outstanding receivables.
Remedy has announced that they will explore the option of self-publishing or seeking a new partner for the Control game series.
Control has been a major success for Remedy, with over four million copies sold globally and revenue exceeding 100 million euros. The game is also linked to the Remedy Connective Universe, including the Alan Wake series.
Alan Wake 2, released last October and selling 1.3 million copies, was published by Epic Games.
“As part of Remedy’s long-term strategy to expand ownership of our business and intellectual property, we have regained full control over Control and the development of Condor and Control,” stated Remedy CEO Tero Virtala.
