It’s only a matter of time until Zenless Zone Zero enters its second stage of beta testing. Developer HoYoverse uses beta tests across its IPs to effectively crowd source quality control – all the while giving players early access to games they’re already invested in or excited about. Zenless Zone Zero doesn’t have a release date yet, but with marketing ramping up for the stylish action game and more insight into its development as part of Gamescom 2023 festivities, it’s definitely at the forefront of discussion regarding HoYoverse IPs.
Also as part of Gamescom 2023, Screen Rant was given access to Zenless Zone Zero producer Zhenyu Li for a lengthy interview about his vision for the game, how development is going, and more. As part of that interview, Li was asked about what upcoming elements will be revealed for ZZZ and what he’d personally like players to focus on. Li was quick to point out something that will get prospective players excited – there’s a second beta test on the horizon, and it’s going to feature a more refined experience.
Li notes “combat rhythms” as a major point of improvement from the first round of beta tests. That highlights some community feedback – that the combat felt a little too simplistic, or that its individually exciting elements were a little too disjointed. According to Li, there are a “lot of new systems” that will help differentiate these elements from each other while providing a more complex or varied experience. That also seems to suggest a meatier Zenless Zone Zero beta test than the first round, though of course, that remains to be seen.
The other major takeaway from Li’s comments here is that the Zenless Zone Zero team is paying very close attention to community feedback. Players who were productively vocal seem to have been heard. Li expanded on what he meant by this when asked to clarify what sort of feedback was being addressed ahead of the ZZZ second beta test:
Screen Rant: Is there an element of critique from the first round of the beta that we’re going to see addressed in the second that you’re particularly proud of?
