In response to questions about the Barnaby Joyce Incident and “issues of alcohol in Parliament House”, Chandler-Mather emphasizes the public’s expectation of a high standard for politicians, despite their occasional failure to deliver.
He expresses his personal belief that drug and alcohol testing in any workplace may not be a good idea, while acknowledging the public’s justified upset over the standards to which politicians hold themselves.

Chandler-Mather dismisses blaming immigration for housing prices as a “huge distraction”.
He points out that immigrants include essential workers such as nurses, teachers, and construction workers, and argues that during COVID, net migration reached near zero while house prices continued to rise. He also highlights that on the night of the Census, there were a million vacant homes in Australia, emphasizing that the issue is not a lack of homes or construction materials, but rather a lack of political will to address the housing system and property developers who restrict supply for their own profit.
Chandler-Mather argues that phasing out negative gearing would have no impacts and may even put “downward pressure on rents”.
He also points out that the tax handouts have deprived many renters of the chance to buy a home, and that building more houses in the current market would not solve the problem as investors “hoard homes that could go to first-home buyers”. He advocates for phasing out the massive handouts for property investors and investing in public housing instead.

Chander-Mather proposes that the Greens want negative-gearing grandfathered out and the 50% discount on the capital gains tax discount removed.
He emphasizes that this would raise billions of dollars that could be invested in building public housing, rather than giving tax handouts to people with multiple investment properties.
