Prospective Pikmin 4 players are starting to wonder how long of a game the latest entry into the Pikmin franchise is with all the extra content it is featuring for collecting and side missions, or at least how many hours they will want to set aside to complete the main story. The game series about tiny plant-like creatures is a colorful real-time strategy game that offers a relaxing experience to its players. Pikmin 4 is the fourth entry to the main series, but the sixth game in the franchise overall and promises its players plenty to occupy themselves with.
Screen Rant’s review of Pikmin 4 lists the title as a must-play for both newcomers and longtime fans of the series for its serene and cozy game style with lots of missions, customizations, and more to make the game stand out. Being able to customize the player character and visit creative locations and meet fun characters is said to offer an immersive and entertaining experience. The optional side missions and the traditional format of Pikmin offering post-game content add a lot of fun extra things to do even going beyond the main storyline.
Completing just the main storyline of Pikmin 4 can provide players with at least 20 hours of content. In this main story, players take on the duty of one of the Rescue Corp to attempt a rescue mission to save Captain Olimar after a mysterious crash landing. With the help of the player’s dog-like creature Oatchi, players explore this strange and vibrant world looking for team members and castaways who need rescue, and ultimately attempt to find and save Captain Olimar.
There are several side missions in Pikmin 4 for the player to complete, including collecting treasures and teaching Oatchi tricks. Once the credits roll on the story, however, the game doesn’t stop there. Pikmin games have a bit of a tradition that after the credits there is a plethora of additional content which sometimes can even be more entertaining than the main game was. This is continued in Pikmin 4 with new locations and characters that give a player many more hours of content to enjoy.
Pikmin 4 is designed to be a relaxing and cozy experience with many things to collect, vibrant worlds to explore, and fun characters to meet. It is not intended to be rushed through, but rather to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Particularly with the inclusion of so much post-game content and collectibles needed to 100% the game, it is probably best to plan on more like 30 to 40 hours to beat Pikmin 4 if someone wants to be able to see everything this little game about alien lifeforms has to show them.
