Al-Arroub, Hebron – Milad al-Raee had aspirations of fame. The 16-year-old had a passion for football, and it was well-known that he desired to visit Spain’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to watch his favorite team, Real Madrid, play. Furthermore, he dreamed of one day playing for them.
In the narrow streets of al-Arroub refugee camp, located north of the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, it was a common sight to see Milad and his friends playing football, often sporting his Real Madrid shirt.
On September 9, as Milad was returning to the camp after a barbecue on a nearby hill, his life was tragically cut short by a single Israeli bullet.
Witnesses report that an Israeli soldier in a military watchtower at the camp’s entrance shot the child in the back.
He became the 47th Palestinian child to be killed by Israel this year.
Abdulqader Badawi, a resident of al-Arroub camp, fondly recalls their encounter and the jokes they shared just two days before the child’s untimely death.
