Juan Guaidó, the most prominent opposition leader in Venezuela, announced on Monday that he was forced to leave Colombia after crossing the border due to threats from the Venezuelan government. In a video posted on Twitter, Guaidó stated that he had entered Colombia to meet with political representatives to discuss the future of Venezuela. However, he was not welcomed and was instead kicked out. Speaking from what appeared to be an airplane, Guaidó said that the dictatorship’s persecution had extended to Colombia. He also mentioned that he was on his way to the United States.
Late on Monday, Colombia’s foreign ministry issued a statement saying that Guaidó was in Bogotá “irregularly” and that migration officials had taken him to the airport to verify his departure on a commercial airline to the United States.
