NHTSA’s Investigation into Tesla Autopilot Concludes with Findings on Fatalities


The ⁤National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has completed ⁢its inquiry into Tesla’s Autopilot‍ driver assistance system following an analysis of numerous accidents, including 13 fatal incidents resulting in‍ 14 fatalities. The ⁤NHTSA determined that these crashes were a result of drivers ​misusing the ​system.

Moreover, the NHTSA discovered that Tesla’s insufficient driver engagement system was not suitable for Autopilot’s lenient operational capabilities. Essentially, the software did not prioritize driver alertness. Individuals utilizing Autopilot or the company’s Full Self-Driving technology were not adequately focused⁢ because Tesla failed to ensure that drivers maintained their attention on the road.
