NGOs urge investigation into war crimes following journalist’s death in Lebanon: Israel implicated

International rights groups have stated that the Israeli strikes, which resulted in⁢ the death of a ‌journalist and injuries to six others in southern Lebanon, are likely to be a direct attack on civilians⁣ and should be investigated as a war crime.

Separate investigations conducted by Human Rights Watch (HRW) ⁤and⁤ Amnesty International have concluded⁢ that on October 13, Israel’s military fired artillery ‌shells at journalists near the border, indicating⁣ targeted attacks on civilians.

The attacks resulted in the death of Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah and injuries to six other journalists,‌ including Al Jazeera cameraperson Elie⁤ Brakhia and reporter Carmen Joukhadar.

HRW has stated that the⁣ evidence suggests that the Israeli military was‍ aware or should ⁣have been ‌aware that the individuals they were⁣ targeting were civilians, thus making the attack a war crime.
