A recent survey of 2,000 PC gamers in the US and UK revealed some fascinating insights. It turns out that 58% of PC gamers would be willing to sell their digital games if given the opportunity. Surprisingly, 24% of the games in their libraries have never been played.
One of the key findings of the survey was the pricing of games, with many currently being sold at $70, which is considered quite high for a digital game. According to 75% of respondents, AAA games are too expensive, and only 36% of digital games are purchased at full price.
However, the situation changes when gamers have the option to resell games. More than 64% of respondents said they would buy more AAA games at full price if they had the opportunity to resell them later.
Here are some more details from the survey:
- 58% of PC gamers would sell some of their digital games, and 64% would buy more AAA games at full price if they could resell them later.
- Less than half (44%) of digital PC game library owners use their games regularly, while nearly a quarter (24%) never played them.
- 75% consider AAA games too expensive, and 87% said that discounts and promotions play an important role in their purchase decisions.
- 75% of respondents buy digital indie games, with 33% liking the low price of indie games.
- 36% said they have difficulty finding new games, and 38% look for new games on YouTube.
- 68% of respondents have purchased in-game content, and 26% are interested in buying limited edition or exclusive in-game items.
The PC game market is predominantly digital, but there are still opportunities for physical sales. Since 2017, Ultra has been advocating for the emergence of a secondary market for digital format games.
In December 2023, the world’s first digitally sellable video game, Josh Journey: Darkness Totems, was released as the first digital video game available for free buying and selling through the Ultra PC Gaming Hub.
