New Security Center Established by NSA to Safeguard Against AI Threats

The National Security Agency (NSA) ⁣is establishing a dedicated artificial intelligence security center, according to AP. This ⁣decision comes‌ in response to ‌the government’s increasing reliance on AI, with multiple algorithms being integrated into defense and intelligence‌ systems. The primary objective of the security center is to protect these systems from theft, sabotage, and external AI-based⁣ threats.

Outgoing ‌director General Paul Nakasone⁢ announced the ‌NSA’s recent focus on AI security on ⁣Thursday. He stated⁣ that the division will operate under the existing Cybersecurity Collaboration Center,‍ which collaborates with private industry and international partners⁤ to defend the US against cyberattacks originating from countries like China and Russia, known ⁣for their⁤ active malware and hacking campaigns.

As an example, the agency recently issued an advisory indicating that Chinese hackers have been targeting government, industrial, and telecommunications sectors.
