The National Security Agency (NSA) is establishing a dedicated artificial intelligence security center, according to AP. This decision comes in response to the government’s increasing reliance on AI, with multiple algorithms being integrated into defense and intelligence systems. The primary objective of the security center is to protect these systems from theft, sabotage, and external AI-based threats.
Outgoing director General Paul Nakasone announced the NSA’s recent focus on AI security on Thursday. He stated that the division will operate under the existing Cybersecurity Collaboration Center, which collaborates with private industry and international partners to defend the US against cyberattacks originating from countries like China and Russia, known for their active malware and hacking campaigns.
As an example, the agency recently issued an advisory indicating that Chinese hackers have been targeting government, industrial, and telecommunications sectors.
